| Dear Friend,
Thank you so much for visiting my website. I am so happy something in your spirit has sparked you to want to learn more about yoga, nutrition, or both! Thank you for trusting in me to help you utilize the tools - yoga and nutrition - to learn, grow and reach your full potential.
I would like to tell you a little bit about myself in hopes that you will feel completely comfortable with my background and my approach to wellness. First of all, I am a native Coloradoan and I consider myself incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by family and friends in this beautiful state! We have so many wonderful activities to enjoy here in the Rocky Mountains. In addition to my passion for yoga, I love to hike, fish, camp, snowshoe and ride my bike. But, I haven't always been an "outdoors person."
An emotional and physical rut led me to yoga in 1999. Recovering from ACL knee surgery in 1998 and suffering from a herniated disc in my lower back in 1999, hypothyroidism (undiagnosed) and post-traumatic stress disorder from a serious car accident in 1997 left me awkward, cranky, fearful and emotionally unbalanced. After months of physical rehabilitation for my knee and back, the last place I wanted to go was the gym, but at the age of 24, I knew I was too young to have so many physical problems. I knew I needed to do something. So, my mom and I took our first yoga class together at the YMCA in Littleton.
The result? I have been forever changed by yoga's healing and therapeutic powers! Within a year of practicing yoga three times per week, I had overcome most of my knee pain, my back was stronger than ever, my thyroid disorder was under control and my spirit had never soared higher!
I am the person I am today thanks to the gift of yoga in my life. My compassion for others who have suffered from various physical and emotional disorders led me to become certified as a Vinyasa Yoga Instructor in June 2003. Teaching has opened up so many amazing new avenues in my life, and my students constantly inspire me as I watch them grow in their own yoga practice. Teaching is such an amazing gift, I strive to give back even a small portion of what my many wonderful teachers have given to me. I believe I am always first a student of yoga, so I continue to enjoy learning from a variety of teachers and styles of yoga, including Bikram yoga, Vinyasa yoga, traditional Ashtanga yoga, Jivamukti yoga, and traditional Hatha yoga. I love the fact that yoga is a journey!
Part of that journey recently led me to wonder about the foods I was putting into my body, and if there is a connection between certain foods and occasional moods. With a new awareness about how food affects my own life, I can understand the countless other people who also suffer from their diet. Some people experience negative feelings toward food, some struggle with their weight, and some simply want to heal their bodies naturally. My hope is to be able to teach what I am learning at the Nutrition Therapy Institute to my yoga students, friends, family, co-workers and anyone who seeks balance in their diet. As a Certified Nutrition Therapist, I would like to help others make the connection between body, mind and spirit.
What's the bottom line? I care about healthy lifestyles and I care about helping you become the best person you can be. It's all already in you, all you need to do is to tap into your brilliance, wisdom, and power. My wish for you is this: May your inner and outer life be of balance and harmony. May the darkness become your light. May your life be peaceful. May each ending be a new beginning…
Wishing you health, peace and many blessings,
